I have never been on board with the notion that Amazon was in competition with Apple. The Fire isn’t an iPad replacement. But I may have to eat crow in 2012. Rumors that an Amazon phone may appear abound. And Apple has just announced something pretty cool—and pretty alluring for writers.
Yesterday Apple announced a free author tool for indie/direct publishing. While Amazon has tools and templates available, there is no dedicated program or app for KDP authors to simplify and streamline the process. The gauntlet now sits at Amazon’s feet.
Books created with the tool can only be sold on iBooks. Fair—and a pretty big challenge to other publishing sources.
