So today is my anniversary. It's not a wedding anniversary. But on a warm June 27th some time ago I met this guy at Banes and Noble in Braintree, having corresponded with him online for over a year. My intent, that night, was to get rid of him. His intent, that night, was to behave like a gentleman, lull me into a sense of false safety, and get lucky by the third date.
Didn't exactly work out that way for either of us.
Anyway, Ahmed is superstitious. His family takes dates and anniversaries very seriously. So every year we re-do our first date: Barnes and Noble, Legal Seafood, Movies, Barnes and Noble again. We've done it every year we have been together.
In a way it seems silly, but I wouldn't miss it for anything. That night was magic... and it changed my life forever. So I am posting this while I await my beloved, who is seeing a patient who had an emergency. I bought him a new gas grill with the cool stove-top thingy for boiling pasta or whatever. He broke his. It was probably a bad idea, because he does have a history of setting things on fire.
But anything for my baby today. He gets his first date all over again. And a new grill. And possibly luckier than he was the first time. Since he'll be wanting to set something on fire and all...
